Who We Serve

Founded by and for the African and Black diaspora community. Open to all who share the experience of building a new life in Canada.

African & Black Diaspora — Our Founding Community

More than 60,000 Albertans identify as part of the African and Black diaspora — one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada. We serve Nigerian, Ghanaian, Ethiopian, Somali, Congolese, Zimbabwean, Eritrean, Kenyan, South African, and all other African heritage communities.

Our counsellors speak Yoruba, Twi, Amharic, Somali, French, and Arabic. They understand the weight of being "the one who made it." They will not pathologise your culture — they will honour it.

Newcomers & Immigrants

Moving to a new country means leaving behind everything familiar — your community, your language, your support network. We support newcomers through every stage of settlement.

Refugees & Refugee Claimants

Refugees arrive carrying experiences no human should carry — war, persecution, displacement, loss. We serve refugees at every stage regardless of immigration status.

Trauma from displacement and conflictUnfamiliar legal systemUncertain immigration statusRebuilding identity from nothing

We work alongside Mosaic Refugee Health Clinic, CMHA Calgary, Centre for Newcomers, Catholic Social Services, and CCIS.

International Students

Alberta hosts thousands of international students who encounter an experience far harder than expected. International students are often ineligible for community services and cannot afford private therapy.

We serve students at University of Calgary, Mount Royal, SAIT, Bow Valley College, and NorQuest College.

Black Canadians

Black Canadians face the accumulated weight of systemic racism, anti-Black discrimination, and racial trauma in schools, workplaces, healthcare settings, and encounters with law enforcement.

LGBTQ+ Newcomers & Refugees

LGBTQ+ individuals from countries where same-sex relationships are criminalised face a particularly complex experience — navigating Canadian society while often unable to be open within their own cultural community.
